A List Of Old Projects

Python Solidworks Electrical Wiring Altium LoRaWAN Microcontroller RF Antennas Raspberry Pi RISC

About the project

Many projects I have completed in the past lack documentation, but I've acquired numerous skills that I would like to showcase. Below, you'll find a list of all the projects along with the key takeaways and skills I learned from each. I've attempted to include some pictures that I took of each project, if they were saved.

Hybrid Race Car

From: 2014-2017

Goal: To build a fully functioning hybrid race car from the ground up as part of a university team and to compete against other schools.

Skills Learned:  Solidworks, high-voltage capacitor circuitry, wiring harnesses for the vehicle, Altium design, and carbon fiber manufacturing.

Takeaways: I learned how to use many manufacturing/design softwares, manage time effectively within the group, balance school and work deadlines, and collaborate within a fast-paced team environment.

Crypto Mining Rig

From: 2016-2017

Goal: The goal was to construct a crypto mining rig using GPUs from scratch to mine profitable coins.

Skills Learned: Building PCs tailored for specific requirements (multi-GPU setups), understanding crypto mining, and managing power resources.

Takeaways: I acquired proficiency in efficient crypto mining, ensuring that the power consumption versus the crypto mined was profitable and justified the initial hardware investment. The mined crypto was held for about a year, resulting in a return of approximately 200% of the initial investment. Additionally, the GPUs were resold for nearly the same amount they originally cost. I also have a guide I created for crypto mining available here.

LoRaWAN device for rower data collection

From: 2021

Goal: This served as my final design project at UVIC. The objective was to create a system that could efficiently track rowers' statistics with low power consumption in a compact form factor.

Skills Learned: Proficiency in LoRaWAN, and coding and integrating Microcontrollers/Raspberry Pi.

Takeaways: Despite the tight time constraints, our team of 4 successfully delivered data and a functional prototype that rowers could use to monitor their statistics.

Helium Mining

From: 2022-present

Goal: To set up a couple of RF-based crypto mining devices for mining cryptocurrency. Leveraging my knowledge of antennas and propagation, I managed to configure one miner, ranking it among the top 500 out of over half a million miners worldwide.

Skills Learned: Understanding Radio Frequency (RF), crypto mining, and antenna setup.

Takeaways: It was gratifying to apply the knowledge I acquired about antennas in a real-world scenario. I've created a guide/slideshow for helium mining available here.

Magic Mirror

From: 2017

Goal: I aimed to create a magic mirror entirely from scratch as a Christmas gift for my parents.

Skills Learned: I acquired expertise in setting up a Raspberry Pi for Magic Mirror software and learned about packaging requirements for the Magic Mirror.

Takeaways: This project significantly enhanced my understanding of RISC computing and the setup of low-power consumption software, ensuring efficiency without compromising performance.
